why does the tongue burn? I've been experiencing tongue burn lately and I'm not sure what the cause is.

I once had a similar situation. For me, it was a result of consuming truly spicy foods.

There could be many reasons like nutritional deficiencies, diabetes, oral thrush and even oral cancer. It's invariably best to consult a doctor. ‍

Thanks a lot for the ideas. I don't eat spicy food that often, so it may be something else. I'll certainly get it checked out.

To add to this, let's also consider gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd). This could lead to feelings of a burned tongue due to the stomach acids reaching out to the mouth. <blockquote>here are some common potential causes of tongue burns:
  • consuming hot or spicy foods
  • gerd
  • vitamin B-12 deficiency
  • oral thrush
  • oral cancer
