i've been setting up a small lab in my basement for some hobby projects, and I'm wondering if an energetic anti-vibration table is truly necessary. They're quite pricey, and I'm not sure if it's worth the investment. Any thoughts?

depends on what you're doing work on! If you're doing anything that involves precise measurements, like microscopy or sensitive instruments, then an anti-vibration table could be crucial. Vibration can seriously mess with your results.

i've been in a equivalent situation, and I went the Diy route. I made a quite effective anti-vibration setup employing a massive granite slab and some isolation pads. It wasn't as good as a professional table, but it did the job for most of my wants. Probably try that first before spending big bucks?

if you're not sure, maybe start off with a cheaper Diy option and see how it goes. You can constantly modernize later if you find it's not sufficient. No point in splurging unless you truly need to.
