I recently realized that selling sex toys is illegal in India. Can somebody explain why? It seems like such an odd prohibition in my view.

The ban is due largely to cultural and societal norms. Indian law categorizes sex toys as 'obscene' objects and prohibits their sale, distribution, and production.

it's such a shame because sex toys can play a big part in sexual health and well-being. They're also crucial for many people with certain medical conditions or disabilities. This should be reconsidered.

Here's a list outlining some core reasons driving the ban: '''html
 • cultural taboo surrounding sex
 • lack of sexual education
 • moral policing and societal pressure
''' despite this, illegal sales are rampant. If there's demand, supply finds a way, it seems. -
